Background Information about the exhibition: Palestinian refugees from Iraq

The art of survival in the desert: Palestinians from Iraq stranded in no-man’s land between Syria and Iraq

Desert life, desert prison: Forced to live in the refugee camp al Tanf, located between the border check point of Syria and Iraq where no one is allowed to leave and no one is allowed to arrive. Palestinians from Iraq had become the most vulnerable group after the 2003 war, targeted by various militias and prevented from entering Iraq’s bordering countries, their only escape became the desert refugee camps.

The creative art of survival in this highly political camp-existence, the never ending struggle of daily life hardships and the yet strong hopes of its inhabitants displayed through photography. Photos taken by various photographers. Each photo an independent story, a piece of al Tanf’s life puzzle.
